‘Scouting has given me a fantastic opportunity to do lots of activities and things that people who are not in Scouts don’t get to do. It’s about having fun with good friends.’

Sea Scouting has the same purpose and goals as any other Scout Troop, however, the main difference lays in the method of delivery.

This is because, at Sea Scouts, water and nautical activities are used as the basis for delivering the programme. Although most Scouts have the opportunity for boating activities, such as sailing and canoeing, the Sea Scout programme puts considerable emphasis on water activities.

The Sea Scout Troop is the third section in the Scout Group, above Beavers and Cubs. The Scout Section is for young people aged between 10½ and 14 year.

Our headquarters in Sudbury is based close to the River Stour, this enables us to run much of our summer programme on the water either canoeing, kayaking, sailing or rafting. We also have boats based at Alton water and run activities at coastal locations such as Titchmarsh. During the winter months, we run the typical scout activities such as pioneering, climbing, cooking, challenge evenings and camping.
